Tommy Franzen

Choreographer & Movement Director
 

Originally from Sweden, Tommy began his dance training in his home country before embarking on a remarkable career in theatre, film, and choreography. His early performance credits include starring in musicals such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, West Side Story, The King and I, and Fiddler on the Roof. To further hone his craft, he trained at the prestigious Urdang Academy in London.

In 2013, Tommy’s talent was recognized when he won the Critics’ Circle National Dance Award for Outstanding Male Performance (Modern) for his roles in Some Like It Hip Hop with ZooNation and The Rodin Project with Russell Maliphant Company. That same year, he was nominated for The Times Southbank Sky Arts Breakthrough Award and, in 2012, received a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Dance. He later co-hosted the National Dance Awards.

Tommy’s extensive theatre credits include Message In A Bottle (Sadler’s Wells), Mad Hatter’s Tea Party (ZooNation), The Five and the Prophecy of Prana (Boy Blue Entertainment), and Blaze (Sadler’s Wells). His versatility also landed him in the finals of So You Think You Can Dance UK (BBC) in 2010.

Beyond the stage, Tommy has made notable appearances in blockbuster films, including Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Mamma Mia!, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Aladdin, Cats, Tomorrow Morning, Snow White, and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, where he also worked as an assistant to choreographer Kate Prince.

As a choreographer, Tommy has contributed to Strictly Come Dancing since 2018 and has crafted movement for productions such as Some Like It Hip Hop, Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, and Blaze. He also served as Associate Director & Choreographer for the European premiere of Your Lie In April and as Assistant Choreographer for the world premiere of Burlesque The Musical.

With a dynamic career spanning performance, choreography, and creative direction, Tommy continues to leave a lasting impact on the dance and theatre industry.
