Tommy Franzen

Choreographer & Movement Director
 

Tommy was born Sweden and started his dance training there. After performing in various musicals, such as Joseph and Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, West Side Story, King and I and The Fiddler On The Roof, he continued his dance training at the Urdang Academy in London. In 2013 he won a Critics’ Circle National Dance Award in the “Outstanding Male Performance, Modern Category” for his role as Simeon Sun in Some Like It Hip Hop with ZooNation and his efforts in The Rodin Project with Russell Maliphant Company. In the same year Tommy was also nominated for The Times Southbank Sky Arts Breakthrough Award and in 2012 the Laurence Olivier Award for “Outstanding Achievement in Dance”. The following year he co-hosted the National Dance Awards.

Tommy’s other theatre credits include Message In A Bottle as Mati (Sadler’s Wells) Mad Hatter’s Tea Party as Ernest (ZooNation), The Five And The Prophecy of Prana (Boy Blue Entertainment) as Wang Tang and Blaze (Sadler’s Wells).

Tommy was the runner up in So You Think You Can Dance (BBC) in 2010 and appeared in the feature films Harry Potter 4, Mamma Mia!, Mamma Mia 2 - Here We Go Again, Aladdin, Cats, Tomorrow Morning, Snow White and Everybody is Talking About Jamie in which he also assisted Kate Prince.

Tommy’s choreography credits include Strictly Come Dancing since 2018, Some Like It Hip Hop, Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and Blaze. He was also Nick Winston’s Associate Director & Choreographer for the European premiere of Your Lie In April and Assistant Choreographer for the World premiere of Burlesque The Musical.
